2020 will be one of those years you tell your grandkids about. Just as we got through worst bushfires on record in Summer, we cop the pandemic of the century in Autumn, turning our lives upside down in the process.
But all things must pass, and with all of the clouds, it's great to have some sunshine to look forward to; and that's what we're doing with the the 7th Portsea Masters this year. I've grabbed the unique opportunity to hold the tournament on the same weekend as the US Masters, and who knows what else will be on... AFL, Cricket, Horseracing... it promises to be a just reward for a hard-earned thirst in 2020. And a hard-earned thirst, means a big cold beer. Several of them. And that's the team theme this year - BEER. "The Vic Stubbies" in green, "The Melbourne Longnecks" in red & "The Carlton Colds" in blue - just to name a few.
This year sees the Portsea Masters at a new venue, the RACV Cape Schanck Resort. It's a mix of parkland & coastal terrains, with brand new clubhouse facilities that are second-to-none. Checking in at 9.30am on Saturday 14th November, it will be a great opportunity to dust off the cobwebs from the no-golf lockdowns we've been subjected to this year. We're also back in the exclusive Bay Room at Hotel Sorrento for Saturday night, so strap yourselves in for a big one.
This year's donations will be sent to not-for-profit Little St Margaret's Kindergarden in Malvern to aid with rates, utilities and relief staff. Established in 1929, it's distinguished alumni include John, Mark, Charlie, Tom & Arabella Brownell, and currently teaches legends Pia Kopp, Zoe Hill and Olivia Brownell.
Brand new PM caps are coming this year, and the meat tray sweepstakes will be back, along with all of the Longest Drive & Nearest-to-Pin competitions. So get your indoor chipping net set up and get practising for what could be the best Portsea Masters yet! - JB
