In one of the most trying leadups in PM history (Covid still not done with wreaking havoc), the weather decided to have a day when it was set to Rain-Sun-Wind-Repeat. The Portsea track showed its teeth this time around, and no new records were set, except for most Bogeys in a round (15) by Lyndo/Doug/JB. We welcomed back Russ, Wal, Brett & Doug, and brought on two new Masters in Johan and Tim.
Here are some of the highlights/lowlights from the weekend:
Jim Gaylard breaks through for his first Green Fez in his 8th PM
Runda notches up his second Fez
Champagne Dinner and Lightning Storms at Portsea Surf Club
23 players at a time where covid made a comeback
8 out of the 11 teams were in countbacks
Some very close Closest to Pins (Pete just a foot away)
Johan looming as 'too good' for the comp! A great campaign (came 2nd)
Photographer was switched at last minute. Bloody hell.
$650 funds raised for Healthy Hips Australia
15 white pants wearers brought in $150 more in donations
You can see the final leaderboard attached. Here are some quick stats from the day:
Best First 9 (Gross): 36 [Even] (PT/Johan)
Best Second 9 (Gross): 38 [3 Over] (Brett/Tim)
Two 9s scored for the day. Holes 3 & 4 for poor Rich & Cam. No 8s were scored.
A Few Birdies this year:
Hole 2 (JB/Lyndo/Doug) (Runda/Jim) (PT/Johan)
Hole 5 (Sob/Russ)
Hole 8 (Cam/Rich)
Hole 10 (George/Jim) (Teaser/Tom)
Hole 16 (Pete/Dylan)
Hardest Holes: Hole 4 (Index 1 on course) and Hole 13 (Treacherous Par 3)
Easiest Holes: Hole 2 (Punchbowl Par 3) and Hole 10 (Tricky Short Par 4)
Best score 'Off the Stick': 75 [4 Over] (PT/Johan)
Average Net Score for the day: 71 [Par] (Superb Handicapping)
Average Score 'Off the Stick': 84 [13 over] (1 better than PM7 & PM8)
The Meat Tray Winners: Rich and Russ
Great work by all, and thanks to all of my helpers & cleaners over the weekend (thanks Brett!) For the milestone 10th Portsea Masters in 2023, we're off to one of the best peninsula tracks - St Andrews Beach... and on a Friday. Making the Masters great again with a Friday night celebrations.
