We are just 24 rounds of footy away from the 6th chapter of The Portsea Masters.
Every third year the Masters returns to it's adopted home course, the Portsea Golf Club. This year it will be held on Sunday 25th August (Round 24 of the AFL Home & Away season)
This year we're celebrating the world of James Bond, with team names and colours (yes the cleaned and ironed polo tops are back) to be associated with the franchise we all know so well.
The Peter Mac Cancer Centre has been chosen by George Theocharis as this year's charity, with an extra incentive added by the Portsea Masters Foundation to donate an extra $10 for every player wearing their team polo tucked into bright white golf pants (not cream, bone, off-white, ivory or beige).
Ideally, I'd love participants to come down on Saturday 24th August where we'll open the tournament officially at the Portsea Hotel for drinks & dinner at 6.30pm. After Sunday's competition, feel free to put your feet up, drink a nice single malt whisky, stay the night at Martins Lane and take Monday off.
The tournament starts at the Portsea GC at 9.15am on Sunday 25th. Group A will commence at Hole 1 at 10.45am with the next 5 groups commencing every 15 minutes from then.
The other tradition we have for every third year at Portsea GC are 'mateship' teams. Justin & SOB won it last time, with the teams of Rich & Cam and Pikey & Hilldog hot on their heels. We'll see some of those teams again this year, along with some new ones - notably Runda & JB playing together for the first time.
The Meat Tray sweepstakes and baseball cards will be back, along with all of the Longest Drive & Nearest-to-Pin competitions. So jump on to eBay - buy some white golf pants, and you and your funny-looking mate could be the next ones to wear the famous green fezes! - JB
