2-Man Best-Ball Format
Also known as Ambrose, and in the States it's called a Scramble. This format is designed to keep things moving along, encourage some good scores, and allows golfers of all levels to team up with by averaging handicaps between both players.
How it works on Course:
Both players in the team tee off & the best shot/ball is chosen. At the location of the best ball, a marker is put next to the ball (e.g. a tee) and then each player plays their second shot from within a foot (no closer to the hole) of the marker. Both players continue to play the 'best ball' until the ball is in the hole. All of the 'best' shots are counted to make up the score for the hole for the team. Simply write down your raw score as you go around the course - your handicapped score does not get calculated until the end of the entire round.
Note: Each player in the team must have 5 drives/tee-offs attributed to him by the end of 18 holes played. The maximum score for any hole is 9.
How Handicapping works:
Your team handicap is both player's handicaps added together, and then divided by 3. This figure is deducted from your raw score at the end of the round, which gives you a team Net Score. The Net score is your team's final score.
